My name is Jen and I learned to cook in my grandmothers’ kitchens, where I was encouraged to get in there and make a mess. For that, I am eternally grateful. One grandma is still laughing about cleaning up sprinkles for years to come after we decorated Christmas cookies at her house, while the other grandma reminisces about how we made fresh squeezed orange juice every summer. Both of these kitchens have made lasting impressions on me, how I cook, and how I plan to pass that along. I enjoy playing around with different dishes and cooking for my friends and family. Having this blog is just one way that I can share my tricks of the trade.
A little more about me?
Well, likes: coffee, shopping, wine, sushi, talking while using large hand gestures, reading, Thai food, traveling, craft beers and microbrews, trivia, laughing until no noise comes out, wakeboarding, event planning, game nights with friends, children’s literature, fishing, cooking, baking and hosting parties.
See? My mom got me hooked on parties as a little one (that’s me rocking the red tights in the middle).
Dislikes (just in case you’re interested): people who are way too serious, playing games at bridal shows, cleaning the house, the first day of school in elementary school (I was a crier), our neighbor’s wiener dog. Disclaimer: I don’t dislike all wiener dogs; this little guy just yaps all. the. time.
My husband and I live with our two black labs and cat just south of Seattle. I love to travel, but have lived in the Pacific Northwest all my life and absolutely adore it. We love what the area has to offer, as do our dogs.
My husband is also a born and raised Washingtonian, but he’s a Washington State University fan, while I graduated from the University of Washington (GO DAWGS!). It’s a house divided near the Apple Cup, but we find a way to manage. We love to spend time with our friends, trying new restaurants and bars, and just spending time together. However, if you saw us together out and about, you’d probably look at us like we’re apples and oranges. He’s usually dressed head to toe in camo, while I like pink and polka dots. On top of that, he’s the silent type and I laugh…really loud and a lot. Opposites attract; at least that’s the story we’re sticking to!
These are just some of the things you’ll see on this blog, or on my social media sites. Don’t forget to join me there, too:
